Congratulations to David Cameron, who was awarded Life Membership of Bowls Central Coast.

David was awarded this achievement for the service he has given to the Association and to Lawn Bowls including his work coaching people with disability over the last 15 years.

The presentation was made during the Zone 15/BCC Annual General Meeting.

Who is eligible for a booster shot?

Eligibility for booster vaccination includes people aged 18 years and over who received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine 6 months or more ago.

Dementia Education for Family Carers and Family Members

Dementia Australia is a source of trusted information, education and support for people living with dementia, their families, and carers.

Their education sessions and programs are designed in response to the specific needs of people caring for or supporting a family member living with all forms of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal dementia, and younger onset dementia.

The education programs focus on providing knowledge, strategies and support that is aligned with the various stages of dementia. All sessions are delivered by Dementia Australia's highly experienced facilitators who specialise in the delivery of education and support to people affected by dementia.

DVA’s Community Nursing Services - A Guide for veterans, family members and carers

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Community Nursing services help you receive care in the comfort of your own home.

Nursing services can include:

Caring for Wounds
Helping with medication
Helping after an operation or a stay in hospital
Helping with other tasks if there is a clinical need
Helping with day-to-day activities, like showering, going to the toilet and dressing.
All veterans, war widows and widowers with a Gold Card can use DVA-funded Community Nursing services. Some White Card holders may also be eligible for DVA-funded Community Nursing services if they meet the criteria.

DVA have a great online resource for more information about Community Nursing Services and how to access the service.

Do you know someone who struggles to do the QR Code check-in with a smartphone?

As of today, Service NSW is offering a personalised “check-in card” to anyone who needs one.

The card operates in the same way as a Dine & Discover NSW voucher, but is used to check-in when entering a shop or business.

You can register for a “check-in card” for yourself or for an elderly relative by calling 13 77 88 or going to the Service NSW website.

How in-home and community aged care recipients and workers can get a COVID-19 Vaccination

The Australian Government is making it possible for older Australians and in-home and community aged care workers to get vaccinated quickly and safely.

The vaccination of all older Australians and those who care for them is the most effective protection against COVID-19.

Receiving the vaccine is voluntary but PACS strongly encourages all clients and staff receive the vaccine to be better protected.

COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and availability

As you may know, there have been some hiccups with the rollout and the vaccine types, so being informed about your eligibility to get the vaccine, when and where is the best place to start.

Alternatively, you can call the COVID-19 vaccine helpline on 1800 020 080 or speak with your GP.

Where to get vaccinated

Use the Eligibility Tracker to view vaccination locations or find a GP in your area offering the vaccine. Choose a convenient location and book your appointment.

Cost

The COVID-19 vaccine is free for everyone, along with the consult appointment you need to attend to receive your vaccination.

Vaccine doses

Everyone will need to receive two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to be fully vaccinated. Check with your doctor or health professional to understand the specific time frames.

If you feel unwell on the day of your vaccination appointment, you should not receive the vaccine. Please cancel your appointment and reschedule when you are feeling better.

Being informed helps you decide

When you decide to receive a vaccine it’s important you understand the benefits and risks associated with both receiving the vaccine, and not receiving the vaccine.

It is also important that you are aware of side effects that may occur. Understanding these benefits and risks can help you to make an informed decision.

If you’re unsure, it’s a good idea to speak with your GP or other health professional.

They can help you make a decision that is right for your personal situation.

Consumer Spotlight - Henry May

You may have guessed PACS' amazing client Henry May is a bit of a staff favourite, but we couldn't resist sharing this fab photo and story in honour of his recent 100th Birthday .... PACS has many clients with rich life experiences, send us a message if you would like to nominate someone!

Chatting with our Central Coast veteran, Henry May, always brings a smile to your face. It’s hard to take in all he has seen and done, yet he is upbeat and philosophical about life.

Having just turned 100, he enjoyed lunch with a few close friends and was overwhelmed with letters from The Queen, the Prime Minister and the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, as well as a multitude of cards and well wishes from family and friends.

Mr May just renewed his driver’s licence and loves to garden, cook, shop and walk every day. He was a keen golfer, tennis player and cyclist, but now lists his main hobbies as talking, gardening and dining out every week with close friends.

One of his favourite childhood memories is climbing the hill behind his house in Punchbowl and watching the Sydney Harbour Bridge being built. He walked over it just before it was officially opened in 1932.

Having served with the 35th Battalion in Papua New Guinea during World War II we will leave the final word to our Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester … “On behalf of all Australians, I wish to express our gratitude for your service during WWII. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for the part you played in securing the freedom and way of life all Australians enjoy today.”
