Available Care & Support Services

A Home Care Package is a government-funded program that provides funding so that older adults can receive personalised care and support services, enabling them to live independently in their own homes. It can be used to pay for:

Home Care Package Levels

Home Care Packages are categorised into four levels, each representing a different level of care and support. These levels are:


  • Level 1—Basic Care Needs: Suitable for individuals with basic care needs, including minimal assistance with daily tasks and social support. 
  • Level 2—Low-Level Care Needs: Provides a slightly higher level of support for individuals with low-level care needs, including assistance with personal care, household chores and access to social activities.
  • Level 3—Intermediate Care Needs: Designed for individuals with intermediate care needs, such as those requiring regular assistance with personal care, mobility support and more complex health conditions.
  • Level 4—High-Level Care Needs: Offers the highest level of support for individuals with high-level care needs, including intensive personal care, nursing services, specialised healthcare support and extensive assistance with daily tasks.

  • What can’t funding from Home Care Packages be used to pay for?

    Funding from Home Care Packages cannot be used to pay for accommodation costs in residential aged care facilities, purchase food or groceries or cover services already funded by other government programs (e.g., Medicare).

  • How many hours of support can I get from a Home Care Package?

    The number of hours of support you can receive from a Home Care Package varies depending on the approved level of your package, your assessed care needs and the budget allocated. The specific number of hours will be determined in consultation with your chosen Home Care Package provider.

  • What should I do if my current Home Care Package level doesn't cater to all my requirements?

    If your current Home Care Package level doesn't meet all your requirements, you can request a reassessment from My Aged Care to review your care needs. They will determine if you are eligible for a higher-level package that better aligns with your needs.
